A number of constituents have contacted me to express their concern about NHS dental provision in Daventry. After a productive meeting with the Chief Dental Officer, Sara Hurley, and National Head of Dentistry, Carol Reece, I would like to update you on the situation.
Unfortunately, dental teams are still facing challenges due to specific infection prevention and control measures, which are essential to ensure the safety of patients and staff. As a result, practices can see fewer patients on a daily basis, so are not able to offer dental services equal to the care experienced before the pandemic.
I have been assured, however, that the NHS is working towards restoring dental services to pre-pandemic levels. Practices are now required to manage a minimum of 65% of pre Covid-19 dental activity and 85% of pre Covid-19 orthodontic activity. Additional capacity is also being commissioned in areas facing significant pressures.
I know that some people have struggled to register for an NHS dentist in Daventry following the closure of BUPA Dental Care. The practices below are all carrying out NHS dental work, but will prioritise patients in need of urgent treatment. More routine check-up appointments will be available once infection and control measures are removed.
