I have been contacted by many concerned constituents regarding speeding in the village of Sywell. I am able to provide an update on this issue for all those interested. After contacting Northamptonshire Police, I received a response from Inspector Sharan Wildman at Neighbourhood Policing Northamptonshire Police. She said the following:
"One of the Rural PCSOs, Kev Lumbis, has been in regular contact with the Head teacher at Sywell CEVA Primary school, Russell Lunn. This was in order for him to get a better understanding of the issue and concerns and provide reassurance that the matter was being looked in to.
Members of the Rural Team have also attended the location with a speed gun on occasions. They have not caught anyone exceeding the 30 mph speed limit but have been thanked by members of the public for attending the location.
The Force’s Safer Roads Team have also attended the location periodically over the last few weeks to carry out speed enforcement, on one occasion they issued 10 tickets for offences. They will continue to attend the location when other commitments permit.
We are aware that Daventry District Council are shortly due to begin traffic calming works on Sywell Road, Overstone. The design of the road and the works planned will also have a favourable effect on Overstone Road, Sywell, as it is in effect one road."
This is a step in the right direction for Sywell and Sywell CEVA Primary School but rest assured I will continue to follow this matter closely.
