Pupils at Daventry’s Welton CE Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, have taken part in a day of sports activities with Team GB Hockey player and Olympic Bronze medallist, Sally Walton.
The Olympian’s visit began with an inspirational whole school assembly, where Sally spoke about her background, early career and what it takes to become an elite athlete.
After talking more about life as a professional athlete, Sally ran hockey sessions for every class, from Reception through to Year 6 - a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience for pupils at the village primary school.
As part of a VIP lunch, a number of lucky pupils also had the chance to hear more about Sally’s professional career, her ambitions and how her determination helped her to succeed.
Throughout the afternoon, Sally visited each class to answer questions and take photographs with the pupils.
The visit sounded like a wonderful experience for the students of Welton CE Academy and I wish them all luck in their future sporting endeavours. Who knows? Maybe one of GB's next gold medallist will come from Welton.
