I had the pleasure of visiting a Daventry opticians last week to help highlight the importance of visiting an opticians as part of the community's ongoing eye health awareness.
As well as hearing about the range of services on offer at Specsavers in Daventry, including eye examinations, audiology and domiciliary, I also experienced the state of the art equipment first hand, with a full enhanced eye examination.
‘We’re really keen to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye examinations – and to make people aware that they are a vital health check as well as a vision assessment,’ said Satvinder Soomal, optometrist and store director at Specsavers Daventry.
Satvinder demonstrated the state-of-the-art Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanner, which is widely regarded to be the most valuable advancement in optical diagnostic imaging in decades. Similar to a 3D camera, it allows the optometrist to see the structure of the retina. The scanner, that is routinely offered at the practice, detects eye conditions and problems earlier with traditional techniques.
I experienced an enhanced eye examination and was really impressed with the technological developments at Specsavers.
All the opticians at Specsavers in Daventry are also accredited to run additional eye health clinics, to help people with minor eye conditions, glaucoma refinement and cataract assessment. Anyone experiencing discomfort in their eyes, such as pain, redness or flashes of light can now attend the store as an alternative to going to their GP or hospital.

This comes with the added benefit of helping to reduce the pressure on our local GP surgeries and other NHS services.
