The HS2 Community & Environment Fund (CEF) gives local communities and businesses disrupted by the construction of HS2 the opportunity to receive funding for projects to improve their local area or support their local economy.
I'm delighted for our constituency that funding from the CEF is being granted to the Byfield Good Neighbour Scheme - a Daventry-based voluntary, community village support network. CEF funding will support their new scheme for neighbours to help other neighbours to reduce isolation with funding of £2,000.
This project will support Byfield residents with everyday tasks that may have become too difficult to carry out alone - like shopping, exercising and attending doctor's appointments, with a dedicated phone line to co-ordinate assistance. To increase social participation and confidence, residents will be paired with volunteers, and the Good Neighbour scheme will also host regular events to increase multi-generational interaction and friendship in the village. The funding will also go towards Covid-19 support efforts, including shopping for those who are shielding or self-isolating, delivering groceries and prescriptions in Byfield.
