Today the new Veterans Railcard goes on sale - giving a 1/3 discount on rail travel for former members of the armed forces in England, Scotland and Wales.
This railcard will offer an additional 830,000 veterans (those who are not covered by existing discounts or railcards) up to one-third off most rail fares from 5th November, and will also extend discounted travel to a named companion and up to four dependent children, if travelling with the cardholder.
This is an important and welcome policy step, which will help veterans to stay in touch with friends and family and access work prospects via rail. I am so pleased to be part of the Department for Transport's delivery of the Railcard, and to show our gratitude and appreciation of the sacrifices made by our armed forces during their service.
