Following the work and support of local MPs, and local and central Government, Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) will be providing meal vouchers over half-term, to children in the county who qualify for free school meals. This is being funded by a Government grant to NCC for coronavirus related costs, which includes support for children and families. Vouchers will be distributed to families who have applied and been confirmed as eligible for free school meals previously.
This scheme is being delivered using an online platform, which will distribute the vouchers directly to the email addresses of eligible parents (this will appear as a message from Northamptonshire County Council). The vouchers can be used in the following shops: Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Aldi, and McColl’s. The total cost of the voucher support is £255,015 – this equates to £15 per child, per voucher.
If your child is eligible for free school meals, but you don’t receive the email, you should visit the Northamptonshire County Council website and complete the eligibility form available as directed.
Further information about the voucher scheme can be found on the NCC website here.
