Chris Heaton-Harris MP cut the ribbon on a major investment in brand new low-emissions buses for main routes between Daventry, its surrounding neighbourhoods and Northampton. As well as improving customers' travel experience, these buses will both reduce ambient noise and contribute to improved air quality, among other benefits.
Stagecoach Midlands has completed its £5.6m investment in 37 new single deckers operated out of its Northampton depot. The latest batch of nine new ADL Enviro200s will be used on Daventry’s main bus network comprising routes D1/D2 (The Grange Estate, Danetre Hospital and Southbrook to Daventry town centre and Northampton) and D3 (Lang Farm, Ashby Fields and Danetre Hospital to Daventry town centre and Northampton). These E200 buses are all low floor wheelchair accessible, with the latest Euro 5 low emission engines. The vehicles form part of Stagecoach Midlands order for 46 new buses for its Northampton depot in our financial year 1st May 2013 to 30th April 2014 and represent a total investment of £7.6m. The
8 buses being launched on Friday will be utilised on the company’s services D1, D2 and D3 routes between Daventry and Northampton and account for £1.2 million of this investment. These join the 28 new buses launched in January and early February on Northampton routes 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15.
Chris said, ‘I am delighted to see Stagecoach invest in these new buses, which provide vital links for the residents of Daventry and many of the villages on route to Northampton. This substantial investment will greatly improve local public transport and shows Stagecoach’s commitment to bus services in the area. The accessibility that these new buses offer, will greatly benefit many passengers, particularly the disabled and elderly”.
