Dear Residents,
After a number of emails regarding the potential use of Westgate House in Gayton to accommodate asylum seekers, I wanted to provide the following update:
The Home Office confirmed to my office yesterday evening (13.02.23) that they are no longer considering the site at Gayton meaning Westgate House will not be used to accommodate asylum seekers. I made it clear to the Home Office that whilst Gayton is an extremely welcoming community, the rural nature of the village and lack of suitable amenities does not provide an appropriate location to house vulnerable people.
I hope this update is reassuring for residents, but if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
With best wishes,
Chris
